Hiring: Part-Time Managing Director

Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre is seeking a part-time Managing Director to add to their burgeoning collaborative leadership team. In coordination with the Artistic Director and Director of Outreach & Engagement, the Managing Director will lead and drive the direction of this 10-year old theatre company. Ranging from visionary to administrator, the Managing Director will create and implement a strategy to seismically scale this impactful organization’s budget and reach. This role is local to New York City and currently 12 hours per week, flexible to your schedule. This person will also ideally grow their and the staff’s capacity to at least 20 hours per week.

Ideal candidates are passionate about the Expand the Canon mission and excited to grow the company to the level it deserves. They are excellent communicators who value transparency. They are organized and detail oriented with experience in arts administration, fundraising, and non-profit management. Members of a larger organization wanting to take on a leadership role as well as freelancers are attractive candidates and encouraged to apply.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the charge in developing a sustainable business model that can be scaled

  • Lead fundraising initiatives with the support of the leadership team and Board, including but not limited to writing grants, appeals, and organizing fundraising events

  • Create and manage the annual budget

  • Align the work of the 3 leaders to achieve organizational goals

  • Help grow, develop, and engage our Board of Directors

  • General management tasks 

  • Develop revenue sources

  • Build relationships with institutional and individual funders

  • Collaborate with leadership on marketing strategy

Remuneration: A monthly stipend that increases each year in tandem with organizational success. Currently $850 a month.

Hedgepig seeks directors, dramaturgs, stage managers, actors, and designers from diverse backgrounds and experience who are passionate about expanding the canon. Expand the Canon only features writers who can no longer advocate for themselves – so unfortunately we’re not accepting pieces by living writers. May you be ineligible for a long time!

Board of Directors:

Hedgepig seeks dynamic, diverse, and driven theater lovers to join the Board of Directors as we implement a strategic plan that scales our work for greater impact. We seek volunteers from a variety of professions to help steward Hedgepig into its next stage of growth. We are looking for members with new perspectives and skills to help take us to the next level.

We especially seek women, people of color, and Brooklyn residents to join our Board. Additionally, we seek candidates with experience and interest in any of the following: grassroots marketing, fundraising, digital marketing, Google analytics, gala planning, silent auction planning, Corporate Training, Accounting, and partnership building. You are a great fit if you are passionate about theatre, the classics, gender equity & want to use your skills and network to build resources that will contribute to the growth and impact of our work.

Board members meet monthly (virtual or in-person), attend social events & productions, work to find resources to meet strategic goals, and become an integral part of our artistic family.
